Social media helps places of worship deepen bonds of community
This article talks about how social media plays a role in churches for bringing people together and forming community through tools such as facebook, twitter, and youtube. This church started a Facebook page just to tell members what was happening in the church, but now members use the page to develop community.
"They started interacting with each other, and that creates a sense of community," Sanders said.
In another synogauge the rabbi uses his twitter to talk to his congregation during the week.
"It creates a deeper relationship for all of us," he said. Grossman has also found that many people turning to social media to discuss Jewish issues view it as a convenient modern-day yeshiva. They can post their opinions and comments on their own time, Grossman said.
Social media is a good way for churches and other places of worship to keep up with members and let them know what’s going on. It might also be useful for finding new members, and doing some fundraising. If a church has a facebook page, it allows anyone to check it out and see what they’re all about before deciding to possibly visit. Social media is definitely a good tool for churches.
