Mobile Giving
Mobile devices have become a big part of giving in the non-profit world. Organizations are now able to set up donations so that all donors have to do is simply send a text message to give. This has also proven beneficial for non-profits in assisting with relief efforts for disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and Hurricane Katarina.
One mobile giving platform is MobileMe, which started out as just fundraising for relief efforts and has grown to represent 40% of the top US non-profits. Mobile giving could become more popular than the more traditional ways of donating to non-profits. “Mobile technology is primed to become today's preferred donation method with nearly 300 million mobile users in the U.S. alone, and smart phones outnumbering computers three to one.”
If people are able to donate from their mobile telephones with something as simple as texting a dollar amount, people will probably be more likely to give. This is a great opportunity for non-profits because it has the potential of bringing in more donations. This mobile platform is good for more than just donations. It allows the organization to communicate with their donators and volunteers to get feedback and keep them updated on the latest information.
